CBM Fracturing - Equipment

Trican entered the dry CBM fracturing market in 2002 using conventional nitrogen pumpers to fracture wells. The pumpers had output rates ranging between 170 and 500 scm/min (6,000 and 10,600 scf) with four to five of them typically being used to fracture a well. In 2004, however, Trican built specialized high-rate equipment that pumps up to 650 m3/min (23,000 ft3). These units use quintiplex pumps and a unique design to double the pumping capacity of traditional nitrogen pumpers resulting in two units being used instead of four or five.

Trican combines two or three of these high rate pumpers with a coil frac unit, a computer recording and analysis unit and large nitrogen storage tanks to create a CBM fracturing crew. The customer and Trican Supervisor control the job, tanks and pumpers remotely through wireless technology from the Analysis Unit. Trican’s CBM crew is designed to provide a small environmental footprint on location and to ensure a safe, efficient operation that pumps the treatment as designed every time.
