Nitrogen - Engineered Solutions

Nitrogen is an inert gas that can be used to reduce the hydrostatic pressure exerted by stimulation fluids. This minimizes the amount of fluid pumped into formation and enables rapid cleanup in low pressure reservoirs. Trican’s engineering group has a deep understanding of the unique properties of nitrogen. Our group combines this understanding with a number of flow models to help predict bottom hole conditions of this compressible gas during treatments. Some of the technical tools used are:

  • Trican’s Foam and N2 assist frac design software. This technology allows us to predict the foam quality, rates and bottom hole pressures throughout fracturing treatments.
  • Trican two-phase flow simulators calculate the pressures, rates and flow regime of nitrogen, or nitrogen combined with any fluid or foam as it travels through the wellbore.
  • Trican's field handbook assists our customers and well-trained staff in calculating nitrogen conditions, pressures, etc. on location while a job is underway.
